Help build bridges to safety
At age 19, after years of rape and beating by my husband who was 30 years my senior, I fled to Togo, then to the U.S. in hopes of finding safety. However, strangers who initially offered me help, forced me to cook and clean and forced sex on me. Soon, I found Tahirih. Eight years after I arrived in the U.S., Tahirih helped me file my asylum application. Five years later, my green card was finally approved.
I am more determined than ever to advocate on behalf of women and girls fleeing violence. Let us stand together and build a world where all survivors can tell their story, and receive protection from harm.
