You can use the following talking points:
- Federal and
state agencies, along with a multitude of stakeholders, including sportsmen’s
groups, have been working overtime in a historic collaborative effort to
conserve, restore, and enhance sage-grouse habitat.
- Sage grouse habitat restoration and conservation is not
only good for the bird and grouse hunters, but also supports habitat for other
game species, including mule deer and pronghorns.
- Despite all
of these positive efforts, members of Congress are introducing amendments to
the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would serve to delay
sage grouse recovery efforts and in essence transfer federal authority to
manage your public lands to the states.
- This rider has nothing to do with
national defense and is an end-around approach to undermining sage-grouse
- A delay of any length will jeopardize existing
collaboration efforts, and will make it more difficult to keep the bird off of
the endangered species list.
