Join Participants at National Youth Event Speak out for Justice in Public Education
A group of middle and high school students at the
United Church of Christ’s National Youth Event created a letter to be sent to the President, Congress,
and the Secretary of Education to protest that in this election year virtually
no candidates are talking about the major issues they notice in their public
They ask for a fairer method for evaluating
students, teachers, and schools than the standardized testing mandated by No
Child Left Behind, and they ask for adequate funding to strengthen work with
parents, teachers and students. Their comments as primary stakeholders in
public schools name today’s educational injustices.
The students want to see their public schools
supported and improved. As the students point out, their generation will
determine the future of our society.
