Union of Concerned Scientists

Protect Federal Scientists

UCS has been working with both the House and Senate to pass strong whistleblower legislation for many months. Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, Ed Markey, and Chris Van Hollen will help determine whether the House makes this legislation a priority in the waning days of this session of Congress.

Please call your representative today and ask them to do all they can to pass the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act before the end of December.

Talking Points

  • * Thank you for your leadership on whistleblower reform.
  • * As a constituent concerned about the scientific integrity of federal research, I urge you to do all that you can to ensure that the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act, S. 372, passes this year.
  • * And as a scientist, I can speak to how critical it is for science to be free from political interference.
  • * In the past two Congresses, the House has approved strong bipartisan whistleblower reform bills. We urge you to pass S. 372 without amendment so that it can become law this year.
  • * This legislation will give all federal workers, including federal scientists, substantive rights if their efforts to expose waste, fraud and abuse in government or the suppression of science cause them to be retaliated against.
  • * Thank you for your time.
