Urge Congress to Expand—Not Retreat From—Our Commitment to Kids' Health!

One-third of American kids are overweight or obese, setting them up for a lifetime of chronic disease. In the face of this crisis, congressional leaders have proposed rolling back standards for healthier school meals just as they are starting to take effect. UCS research has shown that healthy school lunches can make a big difference, particularly for kids who rely on free or reduced-price school lunches, increasing their consumption of fruits and vegetables compared to other kids.

Congress has the opportunity to expand our commitment to kids' health through the Child Nutrition Act, which includes the National School Lunch Program and other programs vital to children's health. Congress failed to renew the legislation before the September 30 deadline; vital programs are funded but progress is stymied.

Tell Congress to protect healthy school lunch standards, and to use this opportunity to further expand on the progress that has been made so far!
