Demand Big Businesses Eliminate Deforestation
Tropical forests are disappearing at an astonishing rate. The results? Massive amounts of global warming emissions and the destruction of local communities and wildlife habitat. The majority of tropical forests are cut down to make room for the production of just four goods: beef, palm oil, soy, and wood products.
Companies have the power to change this. The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) has promised to achieve net zero deforestation by 2020. As a group of more than 400 businesses with almost three trillion dollars in sales collectively, the CGF and its member companies could have a tremendous impact on eliminating deforestation. Yet many of the CGF member companies have failed to release their own pledges and plans for how to eliminate deforestation. Thus, they fail to guarantee their products are deforestation-free.
Sign our petition now to demand these companies ensure their products do not cause deforestation nor the massive amounts of global warming emissions, biodiversity destruction, and human rights violations that accompany it.
We'll be delivering the petition to CGF member companies over the course of our negotiations. Stay tuned for opportunities to participate further.

Customers Demand Deforestation-Free Products
To: Consumer Goods Forum members
I am joining thousands of customers to express my concern that your company cannot guarantee its products are deforestation-free. While your company is a member of the Consumer Goods Forum, which has a commitment to zero net deforestation, your company has failed to take action on its own to ensure your suppliers are not causing forest destruction.New analysis from the Union of Concerned Scientists shows just four commodities--beef, soy, palm oil, and wood products--are responsible for the majority of tropical deforestation. Deforestation releases 10 percent of annual global warming emissions. It threatens endangered species and the homes and livelihoods of vulnerable local communities. At the same time, fires set to clear forests release debilitating haze that contributes to the deaths of thousands of people. But it doesn't have to be this way--your company has the power to make a change. I implore you to help end this devastation by adopting not only a strong deforestation-free policy for all of your products, but also by developing a public action plan to achieve this goal. There's absolutely no excuse to use products that could be driving climate change and tropical deforestation.
