Cycle of Life Tour. YEAR 7
Cycle of Life Tour year 8! It can be said that this cycle has become part of my life. Something I look forward to every year, something I put a lot of time into and something that makes my heart happy. I have become a part of the Cycle of Life Committee as well as being a part of the Cyclepaths team here in the Valley- and if you know the Cyclepaths you know they (we) are actually a bit PHYSCO with our fundraising.
Many of you know my story of why this has become such a big part of my life. Starting my first Cycle of Life ride only about a year after my mom died in my arms 10 years ago. It has become an event that I can honor her and talk about her and my grief journey. I know she would be proud and happy that I continue to support such an important cause year after year.
My mom would also be proud that end of life care has become my favorite type of nursing and what I grown a true love for. Currently working as a home care nurse in the Comox Valley. Each week I am a part of a client’s journey to end of life while supporting the client and families through the challenging time. I know front hand raising money for hospice care on Vancouver Island is so needed and it is something I will continue to put time into outside of work. The money raised goes to crucial things like bereavement counselling for family or friends who tragically lost their loved ones. Or the cancer victims themselves who need counselling accepting death and their journey- something many of us never want to encounter.
Knowing what some humans are faced with – while battling chronic disease or cancer could never compare to my tired legs or sore butt while cycling the 200km. The thing that really keeps me going year after year with this cycle is the support I continue to receive from the people in my life and the support my team the Cyclepaths receive from our community.
Please if able support my ride. Every little bit helps. Thank you – from all of my heart.
