I reject cuts to our children's future!
Dear [Decision Maker],
I am writing because I am concerned about the deep cuts to child services currently under consideration by the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. I believe that making deep cuts to education, health, nutrition, and child safety services would be mortgaging our children's future. We cannot cut the nation's debt in the name of "protecting our children's future" and then cut the very same programs kids need to ensure that they have a bright future education, health care and nutrition. As a nation, we cannot simply cut our way to out of our long-term budget situation.
As a concerned American, I ask the Joint Committee to consider the following in recommendations:--Protect Medicaid: Drastic cuts would not only result in fewer children receiving high quality health care at a time when the nation is experiencing the highest percentage of children ever utilizing health services. Cuts would also mean fewer jobs in the health sector in states. --Protect Education: Maintaining investments in child care and early learning programs means that our future workforce will start school prepared to learn, which is vital to our competiveness in the global economy.--Protect Tax Credits for Families: Maintaining the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit. Both have contributed to alleviating child poverty and are vital support for families.
I ask that you reject deep cuts to children's services as a means to deficit reduction. Say "NO" to recommendations that makes deep cuts to education, health, nutrition, and child safety services. I look to the Joint Committee to assemble a balanced package that makes children and their families a priority.
