Fracturing...An ecological threat
or an economic development engine? As New York sets the ground rules for this
controversial energy reality, we explore the issues exclusive to the Empire State.
This is the story of two small New York communities. In Middlefield, a lawsuit has been struck between the town that banned heavy industry and the farmer who has a lease and is ready to drill on her land. In the southern tier, residents of Vestal see their Pennsylvanian neighbors reaping financial windfalls from the gas industry. But for now, they can only sit and wait to see what New York Legislators will decide. But for some Pennsylvanian farmers who are living with hydrofracking, their warnings of environmental damage and public health risks are too worrisome to ignore.
