Size of Wales & WCS Europe

Conservation in Conkouati National Park, Republic of Congo

The Welsh environmental charity Size of Wales brings people together to protect an area of tropical forests spanning 2 million hectares. As part of this global effort, Size of Wales has partnered with WCS-Europe since 2012 to raise support for Conkouati National Park in the Republic of Congo. This park encompasses coastal forests as well as a vibrant seascape sheltering whales, marine turtles, dolphins, and healthy stocks of fish.

With funds from Size of Wales, WCS is working in Conkouati to advance on-the-ground conservation and educational outreach to support local livelihoods and wildlife alike. Currently, we are partnering with groups of fishermen to encourage sustainable techniques that reduce bycatch and protect mangroves, training ecoguards to stop poachers in the park, and protecting sea turtles and their eggs at nesting sites. We are also working to support the park’s burgeoning ecotourism industry.

WCS Europe is a proud supporter of this initiative, and dedicated to sustainable management of natural resources in Central Africa and around the world. You can join the global network of companies, individuals and local groups supporting community development around Conkouati National Park. For every pound you give in 2014, Size of Wales will match your donation.
