Please Support a Permanent Repeal of the Global Gag Rule
Dear [Decision Maker],
For the past 25 years, the rights and welfare of women in the developing world have been dependent on who is sitting in the White House. With your help, that can change.
The Global Gag Rule, when it is in effect, disqualifies some of the most effective and experienced family planning providers in the world from receiving U.S. assistance. Even though President Obama lifted the policy in his first week in office, the threat that a future president could reinstate it just as quickly is itself undermining family planning efforts in the developing world.
The Global Democracy Promotion Act (S. 119/ H.R. 2738) would end this cruel uncertainty by barring a future administration from unilaterally imposing the Global Gag Rule. Passage of this legislation is critical to ensure the stability of family planning programs. I strongly encourage you to do whatever you can to support this important bill.
I care deeply about ensuring that women have access to the tools and information they need to protect their and health and exercise their rights. I urge you to support efforts to pass the language of the Global Democracy Promotion Act this year. Doing so will help ensure that women worldwide have access to the full range of family planning information and services they need
