Tell Congress: Support contraception for Zika relief!

The Zika virus has women across the hemisphere terrified of getting pregnant — yet in an absurd irony, Republicans in Congress are trying to block Zika aid altogether.

Several Latin American governments and the World Health Organization have told women in areas with Zika to avoid getting pregnant. Exactly how are they supposed to do that without access to modern contraception?

It makes no sense to tell women to avoid getting pregnant while at the same time denying them access to safe, effective contraception. Make sure that the response to Zika includes access to safe, modern contraceptive care. Send your message to your senators and representative now!

Tell Congress: Support contraception for Zika relief!

Support contraception for Zika relief!

Dear [Lawmaker],

According to the World Health Organization, the Zika virus could affect 4 million people by the end of 2016. With more and more evidence showing a link between Zika and a devastating birth defect called microcephaly, it's clear that Zika is a public health crisis.

Because of the risk of birth defects, the WHO and some national governments have recommended that women in affected areas avoid getting pregnant -- even though many of those women lack reliable access to modern, safe contraceptives. To combat Zika, any proposals must include contraceptive care.

Congress must recognize the true nature of this public health emergency and improve women's access to contraceptives and other basic public health needs by supporting:

- Increased funding and support for UNFPA, PEPFAR, USAID, and CDC, to work on maternal and child health and access to reproductive health care services, including family planning, in Zika-impacted areas; and

- Increased funding for domestic women's health programs, such as the Title X clinics, CDC and the Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Program, along with other valuable programs that provide critical access to birth control, counseling and education.

President Obama has called for including contraceptives as part of the Zika response bill he's proposed. Please support him and the desperate women across Latin America who want to prevent a pregnancy until the crisis passes.

Thank you,
