Are you passionate about community, equity and women’s leadership? Join the Walk In Her Shoes movement. While in past years we have asked people to walk in solidarity with women and girls around the world, this year we’re asking you to put your support behind women’s rights organizations in Kenya and Sudan with a gift to CARE’s Women’s Voice and Leadership projects.
In Kenya and South Sudan, women and girls face expectations to assume unequal, subordinate roles in their homes and communities. Women have less access to and control over land, finances, food, education, employment, health care and political participation.
Local women’s rights organizations (WROs) understand the unique needs of their communities, providing services not offered by the government, helping women access legal aid, and raising awareness of women’s rights. Despite this, they often lack the government support, funds and legal frameworks required to support their communities. On top of this, the strain of COVID-19 is jeopardizing gains made on gender equality.
CARE’s Women’s Voice and Leadership Project supports women’s rights organizations in Kenya and South Sudan, helping them deliver quality services and increasing the effectiveness of local women’s movements.
CARE helps women and girls in developing countries lift themselves and their families out of poverty and out of crisis. We bring people together to end inequality. Not just for one person, but a whole community. Not just for now, but for a lifetime and across generations. We develop solutions with women and girls and their communities to tackle the big issues facing them like climate change, economic empowerment, food security and emergency relief in times of crisis or disaster.
