- I'm moving to beat Parkinson's Disease!
My story.
I first noticed the tremor in my right hand when I was laying in a hospital bed preparing for an unrelated surgery. That was early November 2022.
A few months later, I went to my primary doc and asked her about it. She mentioned she'd keep an eye on it- and really, told me nothing, except that she'd put a referral in for neuro. Neuro declined my appointment.
A few more months later, I insisted on seeing her again because now, I can't write and had become weak on my right hand. I was referred to a different Dr. He was certain what I was experiencing was an essential tremor. Just something that happens and I'll have to live with it. He was 100% sure it wasn't Parkinson’s. I'm a 53 yo female. It's fairly rare. We tried multiple medications and nothing worked. He put in another request for neuro. I got my appointment. After a short examination, the neurologist was pretty certain it was early onset Parkinson’s disease. He noticed my gait - a slight drag on my right foot. My right arm was not swinging when I walked and other notes. He then ordered a DaTscan which confirmed his diagnosis in October.
My life has drastically changed because of this and medication isn't going work for me. I'm about to start occupational and neurophysical therapies and I've learned that the very best thing I can do for myself, and my body is to work out. Strength, balance and endurance is what I work on 4-5 days a week.
I'll be living with Parkinson’s disease for the rest of my life.
There is no cure.
This is why we decided to join Moving Day.
Every dollar I raise goes a long way in helping the Parkinson's Foundation fulfill its mission of improving the lives of the one million Americans with Parkinson's. Please support me in this fight by making a donation.
Thank you!
